Qualified I completed the Publishing Training Centre's Basic proofreading course in September 2017, and was awarded an overall grade of Merit. This is the industry-standard professional qualification in proofreading, recognised by the Publishing Qualifications Board. Since 2015, I have also undertaken training with the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (Introduction to proofreading, Brush up your grammar, Introduction to copy-editing, Editing with Word and Web Editing) and Plain English Campaign (Plain English reports, Plain English design, and Plain English writing for websites).
Experienced Before setting up Editwrite in 2015, I worked for a local authority for over 14 years in various children's services planning, performance and commissioning roles. I wrote a wide range of documents during that time (including policy, research and guidance documents, business plans, performance reports, and newsletters) for a wide variety of audiences (including the public, councillors, children and young people, and Ofsted inspectors). I have a broad knowledge base across children's services, having worked in social care, education and early years. I was a local authority commissioner for 18 months, working with service specifications, business cases and tender documentation, and devised performance frameworks for monitoring the effectiveness of services. I was part of the evaluation team for a major early years tender, giving me the perfect insight to be able to help organisations with writing effective bids and grant applications.
Educated My honours degree is in Psychology and Education (2:1, University of Warwick, 2000). I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Management Studies with Distinction through Coventry University in 2006.
Professional I am an Intermediate Member of the Society for Editors and Proofreaders – the UK's recognised body for editorial professionals. To qualify as an Intermediate Member, my training and experience in the core skills of proofreading and copy-editing were assessed and approved by an independent panel, using the Society's professional criteria. I adhere to their Code of practice and have access to a wealth of professional training, resources, advice and support, not least through regular attendance at my local networking group.
Recommended Clients and colleagues have given positive feedback on my services and have recommended me to others. You will find testimonials on My Services page and on my LinkedIn page.
Human I work flexibly around my children's school hours and activities, so I can get the job done when you need me to while still spending lots of time with my family. I am secretary of the school's parent–teacher association, and take the lead on our communications via Facebook and the school newsletter. I help out at school when work and other commitments allow. I enjoy the direct work with children, which gives a perfect balance to the work I do. And when I'm not buried in my laptop or doing 'mum things', you'll find me out on a run.
